The first "Pray4Pink" took place 16 years ago on October 28, 2007 at the Esplanade Memphis Banquet & Conference Complex.
Standing in the Gap4 is a non for profit (501c3) Christian Organization was founded in August of 2007 by 4 friends who were compelled to join the fight against breast cancer. Mary Lawson at the time was a two time breast cancer survivor and Deborah Alluisi and Tammy Cobb witnessed her journey first hand. Carmen Grey and Tammy were grieving the loss of their beloved cousin Melanie who passed away from breast cancer. These 4 ladies found it critically necessary to spread the importance of early detection, educate about treatments, provide resources and support for those impacted. They disseminated the message of faith, hope and love while fasting and praying . They met in the home of Tammy Cobb and Standing in the Gap4 's signature program "Pray4Pink" was established. The living room was the room where it happened!
In early October of this year, volunteers from the Memphis chapter of Jack & Jill of America, Inc. teamed up with Pray4Pink to bring comfort to breast cancer patients at The West Clinic Center in Germantown.
Over 15 volunteers assembled wellness baskets filled with soothing items like skincare products, cozy socks, lemon heads, and inspirational notes—designed to offer emotional and physical support during treatment.
The volunteers worked together with enthusiasm, packing each basket with care. “We wanted to do something special for the patients,” said Pray4Pink Advocate Coordinator Kandice Henderson Once completed, the baskets were personally delivered to patients, providing them with a small but meaningful reminder that they are not alone in their fight.
This collaboration between Pray4Pink and Jack & Jill not only provided immediate relief but also raised awareness about the power of community support in the fight against breast cancer. The day ended with a deep sense of unity, showing that the community stands together to lift up those battling the disease.
